Asha Bhosle, who passed away on Sunday, had sung for Gujarati films too. Garaj Garaj Varso(co-singer was Usha Mangeshkar) from Tanariri (1975) and Kyan Rami Aavya Raas (co-singer was Naresh Kanodia) from Jog Sanjog (1980) remain two of the most unforgettable songs by the legend. The common factor in both songs? They were composed by Mahesh-Naresh (Mahesh Kanodia and Naresh Kanodia). Talking to us, D-Town superstar Hitu Kanodia says, “Asha ji loved working with my father (Naresh Kanodia) and uncle (Mahesh Kanodia). Her Gujarati film songs will remain immortal, just like her. In Tanariri, all the songs were based on ragas. Garaj Garaj Varso was based on Megh Malhar raga, and it remains a magical composition.”Hitu adds, “While I was a toddler when she worked with my father and uncle, I had the good fortune of meeting her later. She was always very loving, extremely down to earth, and very fond of my brother (Sooraj), who was an excellent musician. Her demise is a huge loss for our country, but she will live on through her songs.”‘They used to do a lot of masti while working together’Hitu says his father would often tell him how “working with Asha ji was great fun.” He adds, “They would do a lot of masti while working together, dhamaal karte thay woh log. She had no ego and genuinely appreciated talented people. My father and uncle were pioneers when it came to live shows for film music and they revolutionalised the industry with orchestra parties. So, when Asha ji wanted to do live shows with other legendary singers, they consulted the Kanodia brothers regarding how to go about it. Kalyanji-Anandji ke saath Asha ji pappa aur uncle ke shows dekhne aayi thi. She had great respect for their work.”
