Cody Gakpo scored twice and Liverpool withstood a furious late Brighton rally to keep their League Cup title defense alive with a 3-2 win at the Amex Stadium on Wednesday.
Luis Diaz also scored for the Reds, who advance the quarterfinals with the win.
Liverpool led 2-0 when Simon Adingra struck in the 81st minute. Diaz answered four minutes later but Tariq Lamptey struck in the 90th to set-up a fantastic finish.
The Reds won in 2024 under Jurgen Klopp, the German’s second League Cup title for the Anfield set, but are now led by Arne Slot as the Dutchman pursues Liverpool’s 11th and his first crown as Merseyside hero.
