Less than three weeks since their compatriots finished with six medals, India’s para-athletes will be in action in Paris over the next fortnight as they target a record medal haul at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. India had won a whopping 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics and the gauntlet has already been laid for Paris: 25 medals.
India have already opened their medal tally with four medals on Friday and there’s scope to add to it today. Sheetal Devi, the world’s only armless archer, and Sarita will feature in the knockout rounds which will be followed by the medal matches, Swaroop Unhalkar will be action in the men’s 10m air rifle qualifications and could make the final.
Fellow shooter Rubina Francis will compete in the P2 women’s 10m air pistol, while Jyoti Gaderiya returns to the velodrome in the women’s C1-3 500m para cycling time trial qualifiers [and potential final]. Praveen Kumar will look to win India’s second para-athletics medal when he gets going in in men’s javelin F57 final.
