When gymnast Jordan Chiles competes in the Paris Olympics, her parents, Gina and Timothy Chiles, will be there cheering her on.
“They are on this journey with me and still making sacrifices,” Chiles, 23, said earlier this year about her parents. “This sport is tough on the athletes, but the parents go through every emotion too—especially my mom who cannot watch me without almost passing out.”
She added of her mom, Gina, “My mom has been my biggest supporter from the beginning, and she has helped me become the person I am today. She helped me to remember that my dream was mine and mine alone. It was up to me to give the power to people who would fuel my journey or to change directions and walk away on my own terms. She taught me that no one had the power to just take it away. She is my rock.”
Meanwhile, her dad, Timothy, is “the person I need in the toughest moments because he has a way of comforting me when I feel overwhelmed,” Chiles said. “There is nothing like the arms of my dad to make me feel like everything will somehow be okay.”
Here’s everything you need to know about Jordan Chiles’s parents Gina and Timothy—who named their daughter Jordan, after none other than Michael Jordan:
Gina is a senior pastor at According to His Word Worship Center, a church in Vancouver, Washington. She is also a children’s book author, writing Dream Big Little Chick, inspired by Jordan’s gymnastics career at the Olympics. Jordan said of her mom: “Ever since I was little, she always told me, ‘There’s only one Jordan, so be the best Jordan you can be.'”
In 2021, Gina pled guilty to wire fraud. According to local KOIN 6 News in Portland, “Court documents say she admitted stealing from her clients and said she spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on personal expenses.” She was sentenced to one year and one day in prison, beginning her sentence in August 2021, and was released four months early, in April 2022. Per KOIN 6, “Chiles qualified for time off her sentence for good behavior which likely prompted her early release.”
Gina is very active on social media (@gina.chiles), posting in support of her children—especially Jordan’s Olympic journey.
Timothy founded According to His Word church in 2007. According to his official bio, “Apostle Timothy C. Chiles Jr. traveled the nation ministering alongside his father in various churches and tent revivals experiencing the miraculous power of God touching the lives of many. He surrounded himself with music and song where he basked in the glory of God’s anointing.” He is also president of Better Life Crusades, an international outreach ministry.
In addition to Jordan, Timothy and Gina have four other children: Jazmin, Jade, Tajmen, and Tyrus.
