Excelsior EMC is reporting a complete power outage across its entire service territory following the impact of Hurricane Helene, which made an unforeseen move through the eastern part of Georgia through the late hours of the night. The storm has caused unprecedented damage, leaving not only Excelsior EMC but also several other cooperatives across the region facing widespread devastation. Many neighboring cooperatives are reporting outages at or near 100%.
At first glance, this seems to be the worst storm in Excelsior EMC’s history. The damage is extensive and conditions remain dangerous for both our crews and the public. We want to assure everyone that we are working as quickly as possible to assess the situation and make necessary repairs to restore power.
Key Updates:
• 100% of Excelsior EMC’s service territory is currently without power.
• Neighboring cooperatives in Georgia are also experiencing massive outages.
• Damage assessments are ongoing and the full scope of the destruction is still being determined.
Safety First, Then Restoration
The safety of our members, the public, and our crews is our highest priority. Excelsior EMC urges everyone to stay safe and cautious during this time, as hazardous conditions persist in many areas.
We’ve already taken action to bring in extra crews and resources, but the extent of the damage means that some members may be without power for several days, maybe longer. We understand how difficult this is, and we wish we had better news to share at this time. However, we want our members to know that we are fully mobilized and committed to restoring power as quickly and safely as possible.
Community Support Needed
Excelsior EMC is calling on the community to be patient and offer their support as the cooperative works around the clock to address the situation. “We are all hands on deck and then some,” said Bronson Bragdon, Director of Marketing and Communications. “This restoration effort will be a long one, but with the strength of our community, we will get through this.”
Stay Informed
Excelsior EMC will continue to provide updates on power restoration efforts via social media platforms and local news outlets. We encourage members to stay connected for the latest information.
