FC Barcelona announced an incoming transfer via an email sent to members of the press early on Tuesday evening in Catalonia.
“FC Barcelona and Club Brugge have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Victor Barbera,” the statement began.
“The Barcelona forward signs for two seasons, until June 30, 2026, with three more optional seasons, and joins Barca Atletic.”
“The centre-forward has passed the medical tests at the Hospital de Barcelona and the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, and has returned to wearing the Blaugrana jersey on the pitch of the Johan Cruyff Stadium”, the club added, concluding that Victor Barbera “will soon join training with his new teammates under the orders of Albert Sanchez”.
As the Blaugrana explained, the 20-year-old is a Barcelona native who first came to prominence at Sant Gabriel before reputable youth club Damm picked him up in 2019.
The following year, Victor Barbera signed for La Masia and was the U18 Catalan league’s top scorer with 19 strikes.
This was enough to see him promoted to Barca Atletic. Yet in June last year, Victor Barbera followed the path of Ferran Jutgla by switching to Clube Brugge on a free transfer.
Though he signed a contract with the Belgians until 2027, however, Victor Barbera has been brought home where he will get another shot in the reserves under Rafa Marquez’s successor Albert Sanchez.
Above all, Victor Barbera will want to echo the trajectory of Pau Victor, who joined Barca Atletic on loan in 2023/2024, became that season’s top scorer, and was later signed permanently earlier this summer.
Rather than acting as a positional rival to Barca Atletic’s latest acquisition, however, Pau Victor dazzled on the preseason tour of the United States with a goal against Manchester City, bagged a brace at Real Madrid’s expense, and has stayed with Hansi Flick’s first team to feature in both of its La Liga 2024/2025 fixtures thus far.
A year from now, who knows if Victor Barbera might make a leap that some are never able to, as first choice number 9 Robert Lewandowski continues to age on a contract that expires in mid-2026 and is highly unlikely to be renewed.
