It looks like he is not dead after all.
Michael C. Hall will reprise his role as serial killer Dexter Morgan in the upcoming revival, Dexter: Resurrection, on Showtime. The news of Hall’s unexpected casting was announced during the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel on Friday.
“It’s pretty heady. It’s so gratifying,” Hall said of returning to the franchise for the prequel. “I cannot wait to watch this show. I’m on the inside to a certain degree and I have a sense of what’s coming but I’m really excited. I’ve spent so much time with this character and to go back and have all the imaginative blanks filled in is going to be great.”
When we last saw Dexter Morgan he was shot dead by his son Harrison in the finale of the limited series Dexter: New Blood, which aired in January 2022. It remains to be seen how he will return.
Dexter premiered in 2006 and ran for eight seasons with Hall in the titular role. Dexter: New Blood, which was set 10 years after the conclusion of the original, opened in 2021.
“We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s most successful series ever,” Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global co-CEO and president/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement. “While Dexter: Resurrection will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, Dexter: Original Sin will introduce a whole new generation of viewers into this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well.”
Hall will also narrate as the inner voice of Dexter in the upcoming prequel series Dexter: Original Sin.
