Chappell Roan seen demanding apology from red carpet photographer

2024-10-27 05:50:03

Chappell Roan is going viral − again − for an incident with a photographer.

The up-and-coming pop superstar clapped back at a photographer on the red carpet for Netflix’s “Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour” concert film premiere Friday, claiming the media member was “so disrespectful” towards her during a previous encounter at the 66th Grammy Awards in February.

“You were so disrespectful to me at the Grammys,” Roan said, per a clip posted on social media. “You yelled at me at the Grammy party … Yes, I remember. You were so rude to me, and I deserve an apology for that … You need to apologize to me.”

In the video, a person attempts to step in during the confrontation to move Roan down the carpet. It is unclear what prior incident Roan is talking about in the video.

Roan was an opening act on Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour. USA TODAY reached out to Roan’s reps for comment.

Last month, she was involved in an expletive-filled confrontation with another member of the paparazzi at the MTV Video Music Awards, according to TikTok videos shared by Variety and The Associated Press.

Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, has long been open about her struggles with fame before and after she catapulted into the pop culture stratosphere this year amid the success of her 2023 album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.” She recently canceled a slew of tour stops amid her meteoric rise.

Roan, who may have broken a Lollapalooza attendance record in August, is outspoken with fans about how her bipolar II symptoms have interfered with her career as well as her ability to regulate her emotions and response to success.

In 2022, the Missouri native got candid with her followers on Instagram about how she handles fame.“I’m diagnosed bipolar 2 and it’s been pretty hard to keep together and release these songs. I’ve been on meds and I was in full swing hypomania when ‘Naked in Manhattan’ released, which I’m out of now,” she wrote. “I’ve been in intensive outpatient therapy/ individual therapy 4 days a week and it’s definitely been difficult to balance… I don’t really talk about it much, but it affects me daily and is a pretty big part of my music.”

Roan released “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” her debut album, in September 2023 and the synthpop LP peaked this week at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart.
