Is Devin Singletary related to Mike Singletary? Explaining connection between Giants RB, Bears Hall of Famer

There are plenty of current NFL players whose fathers came before them. 

49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey is the son of Ed McCaffrey, a former NFL wide receiver. Broncos stud cornerback Pat Surtain II is locking up receivers just like his father, Pat Surtain, did during his time in the league. Cardinals rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is excelling on offense in a similar fashion to his father, Marvin Harrison. 

It’s easy to understand why these children follow in their fathers’ footsteps. Between genetics and being exposed to the sport at such an early age, it creates a perfect recipe for a future NFL player. Not all of them turn into pros, but there are a number of examples that the league has seen of fathers and sons suiting up in the NFL.

Is Devin Singletary related to Mike Singletary?

Football aficionados hoping there is a connection between the two Singletarys will be disappointed to find out there is no relationship between the two. The only connection between Devin and Mike is their last names. 

Devin was born and raised in Florida. He attended American Heritage School in Delray Beach, Fla., where he played high school football before committing to Florida Atlantic. 

Mike was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He still resides in the Lone Star State, where he is the head coach of the football team at Trinity Christian Academy in Addison, Texas. He does have children with football ties; however, none are Devin. Mike’s son, Matt, played college football at Baylor and California Polytechnic State University in the late 2000s as a defensive end. 

Those two aren’t the only NFL players with Singletary as their surname. Bill Singletary suited up for the Giants in 1974, while Reggie Singletary had a five-year career for the Eagles from 1986 to 1990. None of the four appear to be related.

Devin Singletary parents

Singletary is the son of Sabrina Clark and Devonn Singletary. 

The elder Singletary also was a football player. Devonn played the sport at Norfolk State University, where he earned the nickname “Motor.” That moniker was passed down to his son, who carries the same nickname now in the NFL.
