Aya Nakamura performed a mashup of her songs “Pookie” and “Djadja” during Friday’s opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. She was accompanied by France’s Republican Guard.
Nakamura wore a gold Dior couture minidress covered in feathers. The ensemble featured a one-shoulder silhouette with a caged miniskirt. She completed the look with Dior shoes.
Nakamura’s dancers were also dressed in Dior.
Nakamura, known for her singles “Djadja” and “Copines,” became the most listened to French-speaking female artist on Spotify in 2018. In February 2023, Nakamura was announced as an international beauty muse for Lancôme. She also launched a capsule collection with the homeware brand Undiz and collaborated with Balenciaga in 2022 on a limited-edition collection.
In May, Nakamura made her Met Gala debut in a floral Balmain dress with a full Lancôme makeup look.
The opening ceremony was created by artistic director Thomas Jolly, a French actor and stage director with experience with large-scale productions. Lady Gaga was also featured in the ceremony, which took place along the river Seine and featured the traditional parade of athletes from 206 national Olympic committees traveling on nearly 100 boats. The parade passed by famous Parisian landmarks such as Notre Dame, the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower.
U.S. First Lady Jill Biden, Chrissy Teigen, Nina Dobrev, Serena Williams and other celebrities attended the event.
The 2024 Paris Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, will take place through Aug. 11. This edition marks the centenary of the last time Paris hosted the Games in 1924.
