A 13-member Australian gymnastics team will compete across artistic, trampoline and rhythmic events at the Paris 2024 Olympics from July 27.
Australia’s gymnastics team features a record 11 women and two men. The 13-member strong squad will also be Australia’s largest gymnastics contingent in their Olympic history.
Six Australians each will feature in the rhythmic gymnastics and the artistic gymnastics. Only one Australian will compete in trampoline.
Tokyo Olympians Lidiia Iakovleva and Emily Whitehead, who will compete in the rhythmic and artistic events, respectively, will return for their second Olympic Summer Games. The rest of the squad will make its Olympic debut.
Brock Batty will become the youngest male gymnast in the Olympics to contest in the trampoline event. He will be 17 years and 211 days old when he is due to compete in Paris. Jesse Moore is the only other male in the Australian gymnastics team.
Blake Rutherford, who was the highest-ranked Australian in the men’s trampoline in the Olympic qualifying, missed out due to injury. Commonwealth Games champion Georgia Godwin, a two-time World Cup silver medallist, also ruled herself out of the Paris Olympics after sustaining an Achilles injury in May.
The gymnastics competitions at the Paris 2024 Olympics will be held at two venues. Rhythmic gymnastics is scheduled between August 8 and 11 at Porte de La Chapelle Arena. Bercy Arena will host artistic gymnastics from July 27 to August 5. Trampoline gymnastics will also be held at the Bercy Arena on August 3.
Australia’s first and only Olympic medal in gymnastics was won by Ji Wallace, who clinched a silver in the men’s trampoline event at Sydney 2000.
