A week off has not shaken Aaron Judge out of his postseason slumber yet.
Judge began the World Series 0-for-2, striking out swinging in both at-bats on Friday night against Dodgers starter Jack Flaherty.
Judge entered the World Series going 5-for-31 in the series wins over the Royals and Guardians, his bat silent except for late-inning home runs in Games 2 and 3 of the ALCS.
Judge’s superstar counterpart, Shohei Ohtani, also started 0-for-2.
Ohtani crushed the first pitch of the game from Gerrit Cole to the warning track, where it was snagged by Judge.
The Japanese DH then struck out in his second at-bat, sending the game scoreless to the fourth inning.
Judge blasted 58 home runs and challenged the Triple Crown in the regular season, but has yet to put that kind of stamp on the playoffs.
“The journey is always a tough one, but that’s the fun in all this,’’ Judge said earlier in the week. “There were good times and bad times, but getting to this point, this is where the real fun starts. For years, as a kid, I’d watch the Yankees play and win the World Series. That excitement, the emotion, the city comes alive. It’s special. I look forward to doing that with this group.”
