The movie, according to Pixar Studios, returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley as she deals with something unexpected: new emotions. Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, the studio said, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up.
In the first “Inside Out” movie, viewers met the emotions Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear who all live inside the mind of a young girl named Riley. In the second installment, Riley has just become a teenager and four new emotions are moving in. Those emotions are Anxiety, Ennui, Envy and Embarrassment.

The new emotion Ennui, represents the emotion of boredom. Ennui is a word of French origin and means “a feeling of weariness and dissatisfaction,” according to Merriam-Webster.
While Pixar Studios might be headquartered in Emeryville, California, the animation studio has film ties to the Midwest. Inside Out fans will recall that Riley, according to Pixar, is uprooted from her Midwest life in Minnesota before traveling to San Francisco.
In the Disney Pixar short, “Hawaiian Vacation,” characters Woody, Buzz and other toys help give Ken and Barbie a dream vacation to Hawaii, the studio writes, but from inside a girl’s bedroom in the Midwest, and in the middle of winter because Ken badly miscalculates the travel arrangements.
The film “Zootopia” also has an Indiana connection with Muncie-native story artist and animator, Ben Lane. He was one of 20 story artists who worked on early versions of the film.
Hoosier and Indiana University graduate Jane Cassidy worked on the animation team for Pixar’s “Turning Red.” An interview with Cassidy can be found online at the the Film Yap with interviewer Christopher Lloyd.
