College GameDay predictions for Florida State football vs Georgia Tech

2024-08-25 03:15:02

Kirk Herbstreit might be an enemy in the eyes of Florida State football fans, but he is looking forward to seeing their running game in the 2024 season opener vs. Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland.

In making his pregame pick on ESPN’s College GameDay, the former Ohio State QB said to look for new FSU quarterback DJ Uiagalelei utilize the run game to open up play-action deep passes.

“I think (Georgia Tech QB) Haynes King can hang around with (running back) Jamal Haynes, but I think Florida State wins this game,” Herbstreit said.

Former Alabama coach Nick Saban said the Yellow Jackets should be able to run the ball and limit turnovers. “I think they play a little bit better defense, but I believe the Florida State defense has too much size,” Saban said.

Desmond Howard agreed. “I just think Florida State is way too big for Georgia Tech on both sides of the ball,” the former Heisman Trophy winner from Michigan said. “It’s going to be a competitive game.”

Pat McAfee said he was inclined to pick Georgia Tech to win “because of “because of a doofus at the hotel who was a Florida State fan.” But the talk around FSU during the offseason coupled with “when I saw those warmup clips with the way they were acting” led him to say: “Give me the Seminoles by a lot.”

The guest picker was WWE wrestler Sheamus, a Dublin native who had a soft spot for Georgia Tech punter David Shanahan, himself an Irish native. “Thing is this country is built on underdog stories, and Georgia Tech is an underdog,” Sheamus said. “I wouldn’t be allowed back in the country if I didn’t pick Georgia Tech.”

FSU and Georgia Tech is underway on ESPN.
