Athletic Club was a fifth-place finisher in LaLiga last season with its 19-11-8 record and 68 points. They opened the new league season with a disappointing 1-1 draw with Getafe, in which Athletic held possession for 69.1 percent of the contest and allowed just two shots on goal. Oihan Sancet staked Athletic to a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute, but Christantus Uche scored an equalizer in the 64th minute to secure a draw.
