The Seahawks traded outside linebacker Darrell Taylor to the Chicago Bears on Friday, receiving a 2025 sixth-round pick in return.
Taylor, a 2020 second-round pick, has appeared in 49 games with 13 starts over the past three seasons after missing his rookie season due to a leg injury sustained during his college career at Tennessee. Over those three seasons, Taylor recorded 91 tackles, 22 tackles for loss and 21.5 sacks, including 9.5 in 2022 to tie for the team lead with Uchenna Nwosu.
Additionally, the Seahawks signed cornerback Willie Roberts, bringing back a player they released last weekend.
Taylor had been part of an outside linebacker rotation that includes Nwosu, Dre’Mont Jones, who is making the move to outside linebacker under a new coaching staff, Boye Mafe and Derick Hall, as well as undrafted rookies Nelson Ceaser, Jamie Sheriff and Sundiata Anderson.
The trade is the second made by the Seahawks in as many days after they acquired linebacker Michael Barrett on Thursday in a trade that sent cornerback Michael Jackson to Carolina.
Roberts, an undrafted rookie out of Louisiana Tech, took part in Seattle’s rookie minicamp as a tryout player. A semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, Roberts started all 12 games for Louisiana Tech last fall, and ranked ninth nationally with 12 passes defensed while also adding 38 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery. A first-team All-Conference USA selection, Roberts held opponents to a 34.8 percent completion percentage when targeted, according to Pro Football Focus.
