2024-07-24 01:10:02

The baseball world remembered Rachel Minaya, who was found dead in her Bergen County home over the weekend, for her warmth and support.

The Yankees and Mets organizations, along with many others in the baseball community, have expressed their condolences and remembered Rachel Minaya, wife of executive Omar.

“To those closest to her, she was a loving and compassionate mother and wife, and a huge supporter of her family and loved ones,” the Yankees said in a statement. “In a very short time, Omar has become a beloved member of the Yankees organization, where he regularly displays his unique ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds. Over the course of his distinguished career in the game, he has freely given to others with kindness and friendship, and in this unthinkable time, we offer Omar, his sons Justin and Teddy, and their family and friends our profound condolences. His family is an extension of the baseball family, and this is a loss that is deeply felt among all of us.”

Mets owners Steve and Alex Cohen also expressed their sorrow. “We were tremendously saddened to learn of Rachel Minaya’s passing. Omar had a substantial impact on our organization and his wife, Rachel, was always by his side every step of the way. The Minayas have been dear friends of ours for years and we extend our deepest condolences to Omar’s entire family and loved ones.”

Mets radio broadcaster Howie Rose tweeted, “All of us in the Mets organization are deeply saddened by the passing of Rachel Minaya, the wife of former Mets GM and current Yankees executive Omar Minaya. He’s one of the most beloved people in baseball and our hearts go out to Omar and his sons Justin and Teddy. RIP.”

Omar Minaya joined the Yankees at the start of 2023 as a senior adviser to general manager Brian Cashman. He served as the Mets’ general manager from 2004 to 2010 and as a special assistant to multiple GMs from 2017 to 2020.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza opened his pregame media talk Monday by extending his thoughts and prayers, SNY reported. “We all know what he meant to the Mets organization,” Mendoza said.

The Minayas have two sons, Justin and Teddy.
