Turns out, Bryson DeChambeau and Donald Trump make a pretty good pairing on the golf course.
The SMU product turned two-time U.S. Open champion announced Monday he would be releasing a video on his YouTube channel featuring himself and the former president playing a round of “Break 50,” a game in which DeChambeau and a celebrity or athlete partner try to shoot 49 or better in a single round with a two-person best ball format from the front tees.
The round was played for charity, benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project.
Playing at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey in the first week of this month, according to DeChambeau — prior to the assassination attempt of Trump in Pennsylvania — the video featured almost exclusively golf talk, in addition to conversations about Trump’s favorite music and other off-the-course activities — and only a single mention of the debate squabble between Trump and President Joe Biden discussing their own golf games.
While DeChambeau, unsurprisingly, carried much of the load over the course of the round, Trump held his own with his driver and on the putting greens. A few holes were scored while only using Trump’s shots.
While the duo was unable to “Break 50,” something DeChambeau has yet to do on his channel, they did score a 50, tying the lowest score on the channel to date.
For each shot DeChambeau and Trump finished under par, they donated $10,000 to the foundation, a $220,000 total after going 22-under.
“I want to thank President Trump for coming on this episode of Break 50! It was an honor to play a round with the former president and raise a ton of money for the Wounded Warrior Project,” DeChambeau posted on his channel. “This was all meant to be about golf, good fun, and supporting a great cause.”
DeChambeau also left an opportunity for fans to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project on the YouTube video itself.
