Williams has had very little running room this season, gaining just 75 yards on 30 carries. His longest rush is just 9 yards, so he’s yet to create a big play. This was a problem for part of last season, too.
You might be surprised to learn he only went over this number in six of his 13 games last season and with the offensive line in worse shape now than it was in 2023, that doesn’t bode well for Williams’ chances of breaking off a 16-yard run.
Plus, the 49ers have only allowed four runs of 10-plus yards this season and two of those were by Sam Darnold last week. They bottled up Breece Hall (16 carries, 54 yards) in Week 1 and Aaron Jones (nine carries, 32 yards) in Week 2, though Hall and Ty Chandler both had runs of 16-plus yards.
