Hope Walz made an ethereal entrance at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night in Chicago. The daughter of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was accompanied by her mother, Gwen, and brother Gus.
Hope selected a lilac Self-Portrait midi dress overlaid with floral lace. Her pastel frock also featured a round neckline, short sleeves, a flared skirt and a matching belt. Self-Portrait, founded by Han Chong, recently announced that it would expand its offerings, debuting jewelry in July.
The 23-year-old accessorized with tan peep-toe clogs and layered bracelets, wearing her dirty blond tresses in a side part.
During the DNC, Tim accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for vice president. The governor’s rousing speech highlighted his political track record, including protections for reproductive rights in Minnesota, adding that his daughter was conceived through IVF.
“It took Gwen and I years, but we had access to fertility treatments. And when our daughter was born, we named her Hope,” Walz said.
“Hope, Gus and Gwen, you are my entire world, and I love you,” he added. “I’m letting you in on how we started a family because this is a big part about what this election is about. Freedom.”
Following his address, Hope, Gus and Gwen joined the politician onstage. Gwen, a longtime school teacher, coordinated with her husband in a navy ensemble. She sported a long-sleeved crepe Badgley Mischka coat dress featuring a fitted V-neck bodice and pleated details along the waistline and skirt. She also added on matching suede pumps and dangle earrings.
Tim met Gwen when they were starting out as teachers in Alliance, Neb. They married in 1994, welcoming their children in 2001 and 2006, respectively.
The 2024 Democratic National Convention is taking place in Chicago and concludes on Thursday. Delegates from all 50 states and U.S. territories are gathering to formally nominate Harris as the Democratic candidate for president and Tim Walz as the candidate for the office of vice president.
