Bill Clinton jokes about his age, younger than Trump, in DNC speech

2024-08-23 02:25:02

On the third day of the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago Wednesday, former President Bill Clinton took the stage.

During his speech, Clinton’s main talking points included touting that 50 million jobs had been created under Democrats since the end of the Cold War compared to one million jobs under Republicans. Clinton also took a shot at former President Donald Trump’s propensity to mention fictional characters in his speeches.

Clinton’s appearance at the DNC was a reminder that the convention at the United Center served as a transition from the party away from triangulation and NAFTA to a party of infrastructure spending and child tax credits.

But Clinton also showed some humor during his set when he joked about his own age before taking a swipe at Trump’s.

“The only personal vanity that I want to assert is that I’m still younger than Donald Trump,” Clinton said.

Clinton turned 78 on Aug. 19 while Trump celebrated his 78th birthday in June. So Clinton is younger than Trump by roughly two months.

How old was Bill Clinton during his presidency?

According to the White House’s website, Clinton served as the 42nd President of the United States from 1993-2001.

With his birthday being in August, Clinton took office in January 1993 at the age of 46 and left office in 2001 at the age of 54.

Age a big talking point during 2024 election cycle

Before President Joe Biden made the decision not to seek reelection, age was a major talking point of the 2024 election, as both Biden and Trump set the record for oldest elected president during their respective terms.

The issue has seemingly become less pronounced for the Democrats since Biden dropped out of the race and Harris became the Democratic nominee. Harris will turn 60 in October while Biden turns 82 in November.
