Almost the entire employee base, including non-technical folks, uses Linux laptops. I use Zorin (Linux). Kailash’s push to avoid all enterprise deals saved us yesterday.
Microsoft Windows users worldwide reported a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error early Friday morning. The disruption in Microsoft Windows machines crippled several businesses in various sectors, including airlines, banks, retailers, brokerage houses, media companies, and railway networks. Microsoft blamed a flawed update from CrowdStrike, a security software vendor.
CrowdStrike later acknowledged the severity of the situation. In a post on X, the company’s CEO George Kurtz said that the cause of the problems was a “defect found in a single content update for Windows”. “This is not a security incident or cyber attack,” Kurtz said. “The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed.”
CrowdStrike has released an update to fix its software. While solving it manually can take a long time, Microsoft has also released an official recovery tool to help IT admins expedite the recovery process of Windows machines. The tool requires one to start the Windows PC/laptop in the PE environment to boot the drive via USB.
