Coming off a bye week, Ohio State football has one more tuneup before getting well and truly into Big Ten play.
Ryan Day, Will Howard and the Buckeyes will be taking on the Marshall Thundering Herd in a Big Noon showdown, as Ohio State looks to move to 3-0 on the season following its early off week.
The Buckeyes have been as advertised through their first two games, outscoring Akron and Western Michigan by a combined score of 108-6. The No. 3 team in the country will look to continue that dominant success ahead of a date with Michigan State in East Lansing next week.
Marshall similarly dominated Stony Brook in Week 1 before losing to Virginia Tech in Week 2 and is also coming off a bye. Stone Earle struggled mightily against the Hokies, going 13 for 36 with 131 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Ohio State’s vaunted secondary, led by Caleb Downs, will look to create similar confusion. That will start with stymying the running game, which Ohio State has done at the second-best clip in the country, trailing only Ole Miss.

Consider this a third straight tuneup before Big Ten play starts next week.”
Ohio State 48, Marshall 0: Joey Kaufman of The Columbus Dispatch says, “The storyline to watch is whether the Buckeyes can shut out a second straight opponent, a feat they last accomplished in 2009 when they held Toledo and Illinois scoreless in consecutive weeks. It’s a real possibility considering the state of Marshall’s offense, which ranks toward the bottom of the Football Bowl Subdivision by most advanced metrics. They are 94th in expected points added (EPA) per play.”
Ohio State 56, Marshall 7: Rob Oller of The Columbus Dispatch says, “Now that Ohio State has the hang of getting out to a fast start − Western Michigan heads are still spinning − I expect the Buckeyes to go 0-60 mph in a finger snap every week, or at least until Oregon on Oct. 12.”
