Vanderbilt football played close with Missouri the whole game.
The Commodores (2-1) played bend but don’t break with the Tigers (3-0) the whole game on defense. Missouri missed three field goals as the game remained tied late in the fourth quarter.
Brock Taylor missed a potential go-ahead 50-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, but Vanderbilt got a stop and got the ball back, eventually opting to send the game to overtime pinned deep in its own territory.
The Commodores and Tigers both scored touchdowns on their first possessions of overtime to send it to double overtime.
Missouri made a field goal to start off double overtime and Taylor missed his field goal in Vanderbilt’s half of double overtime to give the Tigers a 30-27 win.
Missouri (3-0) is one of four opponents ranked in the top 10 of the US LBM Coaches Poll that Vanderbilt will face this season. The Tigers are the only opponent that will come on the road, however, with Alabama, Texas and Tennessee all being home games.
The Commodores have lost 27 straight games against AP top-10 opponents with its last win coming against then-No. 6 ranked South Carolina in 2007 entering Saturday.

Going first in double overtime, Missouri’s drive stalled but the Tigers took the lead with a field goal by Craig, snapping a streak of two straight misses.
Missouri scored a touchdown in one play on its possession, sending the game to double overtime.
Walk-on fullback Gabe Fisher, who has never recorded a stat in his college career, scored the touchdown on a throw from Pavia to start off overtime.
After two missed Missouri field goals in the fourth quarter, Vanderbilt had a drive of its own stall, then Taylor missed from 50.
Craig missed his third field goal of the game, a 46-yarder, after Vanderbilt made another red zone stand.
Missouri got inside Vanderbilt’s 25 yet again, but Randon Fontenette and Langston Patterson combined for the third-down stop and Craig missed his second field goal of the day from 40 yards out.
Vanderbilt tied things up in the late third quarter with an AJ Newberry touchdown run that stood upon review.
Vanderbilt went three-and-out on its first possession of the second half and then on the ensuing possession gave up the Tigers’ longest play of the season, a 64-yard rush by Nate Noel. Carroll scored one play later.
After Vanderbilt made a long field goal to end the first half, Missouri responded with a 54-yarder of its own on the opening drive of the second half.
Khordae Sydnor sacked Missouri quarterback Brady Cook on fourth down with eight seconds left in the second quarter. One quick completion later, Vanderbilt set Taylor up for the 57-yard field goal to take the lead into halftime.
After starting the drive in Vanderbilt territory, Missouri once again stalled in the red zone as Vanderbilt forced the field goal to tie it.
After Randon Fontenette got a tackle for loss on third down in the red zone, Missouri doinked a field goal off the upright for an empty red-zone possession.
Vanderbilt drove down the field but the drive stalled at the 10-yard line after a Pavia sack, leading the Commodores to settle for the field goal.
After a drive in which Missouri had no trouble moving the ball, Cook found top receiver Luther Burden for the 20-yard touchdown pass.
Diego Pavia escaped pressure and took a rare deep shot, finding an open Joseph McVay streaking for the end zone. It was the first collegiate catch for the true freshman McVay, who had yet to play in a game before Saturday.
Vanderbilt vs. Missouri will be broadcast on SEC Network. The announcers will be Taylor Zarzour and Matt Stinchcomb.
Vanderbilt is 4-12-1 against Missouri all time.

Vanderbilt will be without CB Mark Davis (Achilles) and OT CJ Williams (ankle fracture), who are both out for the season. DE Zaylin Wood is also out after suffering an injury during the Georgia State game. DE Khordae Sydnor, TEs Brycen Coleman, Eli Stowers and Cole Spence and LB/S Maurice Hampton (hamstring) are questionable.
Forecast high in Columbia for Saturday is 83 degrees. While there is a chance of rain in the morning, it is expected to clear up by kickoff time.
