BHOPAL: An 11-year-old boy died in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh while attempting to create a social media reel mimicking an online stunt.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening. The deceased has been identified as Karan Parmar.
Police said Karan was a class 7 student. He was playing with friends on an empty plot near his home after returning from school.
A video has emerged showing Karan placing a rope around his neck, likely imitating a scene he may have seen online.
While some children filmed Karan acting out the scene, the situation turned fatal when the rope tightened around his neck, leading to suffocation.
Bystanders, mistaking it for an act, did not intervene until Karan collapsed.
The children then fled the scene, with the one filming even leaving the phone behind. Karan’s family, upon learning about the incident, took him to the civil hospital in Ambah, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The Ambah police have taken possession of the phone left at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday morning.
The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including statements from witnesses.
A case has been registered in the matter, and further investigations are ongoing.
