Zendaya Wears Archival Bob Mackie Gold Dress With Cutouts to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

2024-10-21 02:05:04

On Saturday, Zendaya attended the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony for musical icon Cher and her archival look from the 2001 Bob Mackie collection was a perfect ode to the singer. Cher first wore Mackie in 1967 during an appearance on The Carol Burnett Show and continued to frequently collaborate with the designer. The semi-sheer gold dress Zendaya chose was covered in beads and criss-crossed the star’s body in a series of seductive cutouts that showed off her toned torso.

Over the piece, Zendaya wore a white satin coat with massive lapels and cuffs detailed with gold stripes. She wore the outfit with pointed-toe gold pumps and had her hair back and straight. For makeup, the actress had on a natural makeup palette with a classic 70s feel.

The event was held at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. Other inductees for the night included Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Ozzy Osbourne and A Tribe Called Quest.

Zendaya collaborated on the look with her stylist Law Roach, who described the entire ensemble in his Instagram Stories, sharing a picture of the original runway show debut.

“Fall 2001 Bob Mackie Couture collection, Foreign Intrigue,” Roach wrote. “White silk satin trench coat, with dramatic collar and cuffs, embroidered in gold and diamond iridescent bugle beads and stones. Nude illusion halter-gown, entirely hand-beaded in gold, diamond and iridescent bugle beads and aurora-borialus [sic] stones.”

In an interview with The Cutting Room Floor, Roach talked about how he and Zendaya supported each other from early on.

“She was always the one advocating for me and making sure I was in these rooms that people thought I didn’t belong in. Even as a young girl, I’m talking about 16, 17 years old,” he said. “We’ve sat in boardrooms with clients and companies and CEOs and they would try to make me invisible and she would say, ‘Law has something to say,’ or someone [would] try to talk around me and she’s like, ‘Oh, well he just asked you a question,’ and it was like those small, little things that always when someone would try to take the power, she would hand it right back to me.”
