Zendaya always understands the assignment. When it came time to present one of the most prolific artists of all time with a major honor, Zendaya made sure to channel her in the best way.
The actor headed to Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday night to honor Cher as she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Zendaya introduced Cher and paid homage to her legendary style throughout the years by wearing a vintage Bob Mackie gown. The dress is similar to one that Cher wore in 1972, also by the designer
Cher has been a notable Bob Mackie muse for decades, wearing countless glamorous gowns and outfits by the designer throughout the 70s and 80s. The gold, barely-there gown that Zendaya wore comes from the fall 2001 “Foreign Intrigue” collection. The fashion house shared the details of the dress on Instagram, writing that the dress is a “nude illusion halter gown entirely hand beaded in gold, diamond and iridescent bugle beads and aurora-borialus stones.”
Zendaya paired the beautifully-crafted gown with a pair of gold pointed stilettos. As for her hair and makeup, Zendaya went fully into a classic Cher look. She wore her hair ultra long and straight down her back — much like Cher famously did for years.
The dress also came with a white satin trench coat with an ultra-dramatic collar, embellished with lines of gold beads and stones.
“Thank you, Cher. Thank you for being an advocate, for being an ally,” Zendaya said in her speech. “For [paving] the way for some many humans of all kinds to live in and speak their truth. And to have the courage to be as daring and as open-hearted as you.”
Before Cher accepted her honor, she joined Dua Lipa on stage to perform her mega-hit song “Believe.” Both musicians were wearing similar all-leather outfits as they danced and duetted the song.
