Seahawks Optimistic DK Metcalf Injury Isn’t Serious

ATLANTA—There was a lot to love about the Seahawks’ 34-14 win over the Falcons, a game that featured big plays and takeaways by the defense, strong performances on offense and several players stepping up and playing well while filling in for injured starters.

But if there was a negative on Sunday, it was seeing DK Metcalf leave the Seahawks sideline on a cart in the fourth quarter, the result of knee injury that occurred late in the third quarter on a leaping catch that didn’t count because he was knocked out of bounds before going to the ground.

Metcalf, who had four catches for 99 yards and a touchdown, was unable to return to the game, but Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald expressed optimism that the injury isn’t serious.

“On that sideline catch, he banged up his knee a little bit,” Macdonald said. “Not sure the severity. We’re optimistic at this point, it doesn’t look too bad.”

The only other injury reported by Macdonald was an ankle injury to cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett late in the game that “didn’t look serious.”

The Seahawks went into the game minus right tackle Stone Forsythe and cornerbacks Riq Woolen and Tre Brown, leading to Pritchett and Josh Jobe filling in at corner, and rookie Michael Jerrell starting at right tackle.

Macdonald said he does not know how quickly Forsythe, who was out with a hand injury, will be back, but there is hope that George Fant, who opened the season starting at right tackle before leaving the opener with a knee injury, could return to practice this week.

“We think so, there’s a chance, yeah,” Macdonald said. “We’ll see. It’s not definite yet, but we’re optimistic it will be soon.”
