Oregon is the new No. 1
Oregon is the new No. 1 team in this week’s AP Poll. The Ducks are only two weeks removed from a top-five win over Ohio State and avoided a trap game against Purdue last week. With last week’s top-ranked team falling — Georgia knocked off Texas, 30-15 — Oregon moves up one spot as the highest-ranked undefeated team.
Georgia, who beat the previous No. 1 team, rose three spots to No. 2. No. 3 Penn State and No. 4 Ohio State stayed put while Texas dropped four spots to No. 5.
Alabama dropped eight spots to No. 15 after losing its second game of the season. The Crimson Tide has its most losses before November since 2007, Nick Saban’s first season. It’s the first time Alabama has ranked No. 15 or lower in the AP Poll since 2010.
Michigan was the only top-25 team not in the top 10 to lose last week, leading the Wolverines to fall out of the rankings. Vanderbilt replaces Michigan, entering at No. 25 with a 5-2 record. The Commodores have a ranked win over then-No. 1 Alabama, a three-point loss to a ranked Missouri team and a bad loss to a Georgia State team that doesn’t have any other FBS wins. Up next, Vanderbilt has another potential resume-boosting game against Texas.
Below in the receiving votes portion of the poll, Liberty remains the lone unranked undefeated team at 5-0. The Flames are 32nd in the poll when counting receiving votes.
