BHUBANESWAR: Members of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Odisha unit, lodged a complaint on Friday at Capital police station demanding stringent action against Odia film actor Buddhaditya Mohanty for his “controversial” remarks against opposition leader Rahul Gandhi.
In his social media post, Mohanty said gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s subsequent target should be Rahul, following the assassination of former Maharashtra MLA Baba Siddique. This statement sparked outrage among NSUI members, prompting the actor to take down the post.
NSUI state president Udit Pradhan said, “If the actor incites a gangster to assassinate the opposition leader, we can conclude that he is a criminal. We demand action against the actor for this unlawful act.”
A police officer said a case was not registered in the matter. “We have made an inquiry after entering it in the station diary,” he added.
Mohanty apologised for his remarks. “My last post regarding Rahul Gandhi was never intended to target, harm, or demean him in any way, nor to write anything against him. If I unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments, I offer my sincere apologies,” he said.
