Local republicans react to Mark Robinson allegations

WINSTON-SALEM — With only 47 days until election day, local Republicans and political educators are reacting to the recent release of information regarding gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson.

According to an Elon University Poll, North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein is leading.

The explosive allegations may shift the race, but some say it may be too early to tell.

“How it affects him in the polls, I can’t imagine that this is going to be received well by voters,” said Brandon Lenoir, Political Science professor at High Point University.

The news comes on the last day for candidates to drop out of the race.

Right before CNN released the article, Robinson took to X-formerly known as Twitter- to pledge his continuation in the race.

“Let me reassure you, the things that you will see in that story, those are not the words of Mark Robinson. You know my words, you know my character, and you know I have been completely transparent in the race before. We are staying in this race and we are in it to win it,” said Robinson in a post on Thursday.

Guilford County republicans say they expect to see a thorough investigation into the statements.

“The democrats and the media have run a total smear campaign against Mark Robinson. And we’re a little skeptical the source of this information in a society and media that uses AI so much, I don’t know how we can put so much validity and credibility into these accusations,” said Chris Meadows, Chair of Guilford County GOP.

Following the news, Stein’s team said:

“North Carolinians already know Mark Robinson is completely unfit to be Governor.Josh remains focused on winning this campaign so that together we can build a safer, stronger North Carolina for everyone.”
