On Thursday night, FC Barcelona tasted their first defeat of the season under new manager Hansi Flick, as they lost 2-1 to AS Monaco in the UEFA Champions League.
The result brought an end to a five-game winning streak that the Blaugrana had strung together since the start of the season.
Eric Garcia’s sending-off just ten minutes into the game made the situation very difficult for Barcelona but they fought back after going behind as Lamine Yamal scored his first goal in the Champions League.
But a second-half strike from George Ilenikhena sealed the deal in favour of Monaco at Stade Louis II.
Despite the defeat, Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal is taking an optimistic outlook on the situation.
The 17-year-old La Masia sensation, who became the second-youngest goalscorer in Champions League history last night, sent a message to fans via social media, writing that even though things did not go their way against Monaco, it is just the start of the road.
“Not the start we wanted, but this is just getting started. To be continued,” he wrote, alongside three pictures of him celebrating his goal on the night.
After his goal against Monaco last night, Yamal now has four goals and four assists from six matches in all competitions in La Liga.
Only Erling Haaland of Manchester City (11 G/A) and Bayern Munich ace Harry Kane (9 G/A) have more direct goal involvements than Yamal in the top five leagues in Europe.
Naturally, despite his young age, Yamal is now being considered one of the best wingers in the game on current form.
