DULUTH, Minn.– This well-known birding spot is kicking off their most popular weekend of the year!
Hawk weekend is catering to the bird enthusiasts in the Northland by celebrating one of the busiest migration weeks. Specifically, the arrival of broad-winged hawks will be highlighted this weekend.
Hawk Ridge has been participating in research and education programs for over 50 years. People from all over migrate to Duluth for this event as well.
“This is an internationally known hawk watching location. We’ve had people from Duluth. We’ve had people from Florida, Maine, one of my favorite guests was from Switzerland, and they had never seen a bald eagle. So, they’re telling me, we’d like to see a bald eagle. And I say, well, there’s one right there! So, they were able to see that. And that just makes me happy to share that with them.” explained Sara DePew, lead naturalist at Hawk Ridge.
The festival caters to new and experienced birders alike.
Some activities you can look forward to are nature hikes, as well as programs on a variety of birds such as swans, eagles, and of course hawks.
Hawk weekend continues through Sunday.
