There are three things we know: Alicia Silverstone is in England, she’s eaten something, and that something was a thing she found on the street. Silverstone posted a video of herself to TikTok on Monday asking viewers for their help in identifying a plant she had already started eating. “I just bit into it because I was on the street and we were discussing whether this was a tomato or not,” she says, holding the half-bitten piece of fruit up to the camera. “It’s definitely not, because look at these leaves!” Astute viewers identified Silverstone’s street snack as a Jerusalem cherry and immediately became worried because it is definitely not a tomato and is, in fact, toxic to humans. It’s surprising that Silverstone would put herself in this position; she’s been vegan for 26 years, so you’d think she’d know her plants by now. She’s also a noted skeptic of medicines and vaccines, which are designed for human consumption and not something you just pick up off the street and put in your mouth. Why, Alicia, why!
But don’t worry: The poison Silverstone may have ingested is “generally not life-threatening,” according to Wikipedia. So, despite the growing concern among fans that she has not posted online since we saw her take a bite out of the bad berry, it’s far more likely that she just got diarrhea than that she’s clinging to life in a hospital. Also, it’s worth noting that we don’t actually see her swallow the bite she takes, so it’s possible that Silverstone is just the kind of person who will show up in front of your house, take big bites out of your plants, chew them, loudly ask her phone camera what she’s eating, and then spit a huge wad of poison berry out onto the sidewalk in front of your home.
