Belaboring the obvious, because it deserves belaboring: This is the best the Georgia defense has looked in a long time, probably going back to the 2021 season, especially considering the stakes. There’s still another half to go but this was the game that could have buried Georgia’s chances at the SEC championship, and reduced the chances for making the Playoff, but instead the Bulldogs are re-announcing themselves as a preeminent force in the sport.
Five sacks in the first half, three by Jalon Walker. Three forced turnovers, two of them by cornerback Daylen Everette. The defense forced Texas to make a quarterback change, but for all the attention on that the Longhorns also haven’t been able to run the ball. Georgia has been so much better at guarding the edges than the last few games.
The only worry for Georgia is if its offense left too many points on the board. It got a lot of good field position but three times settled for Peyton Woodring field goals. (And he’s been very big, by the way.)
That said, until Texas shows it can do anything on Georgia’s defense, it won’t matter.
