Modern Family reunites for WhatsApp ad making fun of iPhone vs Android texting wars |

Have you been missing Mitchell, Cameron, Claire, and Phil since Modern Family ended a few years ago? Well, we have good news – they’re back! But this time, instead of making us laugh on TV, they’ve reunited to take on a ‘serious issue’ that’s dividing families and friends everywhere – the battle of the blue and green text bubbles — the long-standing iPhone vs Android texting wars.
In a new commercial for WhatsApp, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson reprise their roles as Phil, Claire, Cameron, and Mitchell. The ad starts with a familiar scene: the family gathered in the Dunphy living room. Phil, Claire, and Cameron are all laughing at a hilarious photo Haley sent to the group chat. But when Mitchell walks in and asks to see it, the room goes silent.
Uh oh! Phil accidentally reveals that the photo was shared in a chat that Mitchell isn’t a part of. “You started a family chat without me? Shame!” Mitchell exclaims in his signature dramatic fashion.

The family group chat moves to WhatsApp

Cameron tries to smooth things over, explaining that it’s not because they don’t want Mitchell in the chat. It’s just because he has an Android phone, which means his texts show up as green bubbles instead of blue. Claire chimes in, complaining about Mitchell’s blurry photos and weird emoji reactions. (That’s just how all the iPhone people talk.)
As the family continues to bicker, a wise painter working outside overhears their conversation. He pops his head in and suggests they all switch to WhatsApp. That way, they can enjoy clear photos, fun features, and stay connected, no matter what kind of phone they have.
So next time you’re texting with friends or family, think of Mitchell and his green bubble woes. And maybe give WhatsApp a try, so you can avoid all that group chat drama. As the ad says, “Don’t make this family’s mistake!”
Sadly, there aren’t any plans for new Modern Family episodes, but it’s nice to get a small taste of the family again. If this commercial is a hit, who knows? Maybe we’ll get to see more of our favourite TV family in the future. But even if this is the last we see of them, it’s a funny final bow. Here’s hoping Mitchell doesn’t hold a grudge against the others for too long!
