VADODARA: In a blatant display of negligence, four Madhya Pradesh policemen went to seek blessings of goddess Mahakali at Pavagadh taking along a murder-accused who gave them the slip and escaped in the throng of devotees in the temple town on Tuesday.
By law, police are supposed to take any undertrial brought to the court for hearing directly to the jail or police station as per the law.But the cops from Mandsaur police station, who had brought accused Dashrath Jat to the Halol court for a hearing on Tuesday couldn’t resist the temptation to seek the blessings.
Jaat found a perfect opportunity to flee when the policemen were boarding the ropeway to the hill and he disappeared into the crowd. The four cops chased him but he was nowhere to be found in the crowd. The Pavagadh police have now launched a search for Jaat. A complaint has been registered against Jaat at the Pavagadh police station and a search has been launched.
The policemen are also expected to face disciplinary action for derlication of duty and negligence in Mandsaur.
Jaat was booked by the Rajgadh police in Panchmahal district for drug trafficking in 2022 and he was declared wanted in the case. He was arrested by the Madhya Pradesh police some time ago in connection with a murder.
Assistant sub-inspector, Narendrasinh Pawar of Mandsaur police station, stated in his complaint that after the hearing completed in the Halol court on Tuesday, the four cops decided to go to Pavagadh to seek blessings and took along Jaat.
