Andrew Garfield Thinks He and Amelia Dimoldenberg Could Have Dated

Are Andrew Garfield and Amelia Dimoldenberg written in the stars? At long last, the Oscar nominee went on a chicken shop date with the British comedian and presenter, where the pair hashed out whether there’s a chance they could actually find romance off camera.

Dimoldenberg and Garfield’s chicken shop date was a long time in the making. The pair first went viral two years ago, when Dimoldenberg interviewed Garfield on the red carpet of the 2022 GQ Men of the Year Awards. They met again at the 2023 Golden Globes a few months later. The We Live in Time star and Dimoldenberg had a cheeky exchange and subsequently set the internet on fire with their flirty chemistry.

Two years later, Garfield finally went on Dimoldenberg’s popular YouTube series, where she interviews big stars like Billie Eilish, Paul Mescal, SZA, and Jennifer Lawrence at a chicken shop (not to be confused with the other chicken-related YouTube interview series, Hot Ones). Dimoldenberg wasted no time giving the people what they wanted, jokily warning Garfield: “Don’t, like, bring out a ring or get down on one knee. I’m not in the mood—today.”

Garfield, of course, was more than ready to flirt right back. The actor told Dimoldenberg that he believed there was a chance he could have gone on a date with her—if neither of them were famous. “Do you think this has fucked up the fact that we actually could have gone on a date at some point, maybe?” he asks Dimoldenberg. “I actually believe maybe we could have—without all of this,” he continued.

The two did more than just flirt during their chicken shop date. Dimoldenberg asked the two-time Oscar nominee when he was going to actually win the award. “Can I be honest with you? That whole thing has meant something to me in the past, and I think I needed that, and then when I didn’t win a couple of times, I was like, I guess maybe I should give up on that dream,” Garfield answered. “Probably when you stop caring, that’s when it will happen,” said Dimoldenberg.

She then told Garfield that she had given up on the possibility of romance between them. “I’m purposefully giving up, because then something unexpected will happen out of nowhere,” she said. And something unexpected did happen: Earlier this week, news came out that Garfield reportedly broke up with his girlfriend, Dr. Kate Thomas. Wow, maybe the whole “giving up” thing works.
