KOLKATA: The CBI, probing the rape and murder of the R G Kar Medical College & Hospital doctor, questioned Sandip Ghosh – former principal of the institution – for the third consecutive day on Sunday and asked about his call records and WhatsApp messages. On Sunday morning, Ghosh entered the CBI office around 10.40 after a 13-hour interrogation a day ago. By then the CBI officials had quizzed him for more than 24 hours over two days and found that his statements were not adding up to his claims. Late on Saturday night, the CBI team, led by an additional director level officer, sat in a meeting along with the top brass in New Delhi.

Ghosh, who looked agitated on Sunday morning, slammed the door of his car when reporters questioned him near his home.
CBI is now trying to untangle what made the assistant super call up the family to inform that their daughter has “died by suicide”. Ghosh, who has claimed that he was not involved with what happened on Aug 9, was asked who authorized the professor to confirm and convey the news to the family. Investigators have reasons to believe that the professor might have been instructed by someone else in the institution before calling up her parents. The agency may look into the mobile phone of the assistant super for this.

The officials also wanted to know why the hospital decided to carry out renovation work several metres away from the seminar hall where the doctor’s body was found. The agency has already questioned Arunava Dutta Chowdhury, head of department of the chest department, over the urgency of the work. They may inspect mobiles and computers of Dutta Chowdhury to find out what led the department to carry out such an “urgent work”. Investigators were also not convinced with Ghosh’s answers regarding the “urgency” to renovate the room.
Meanwhile, CBI officials have also sent summons to the car driver of the 31-year-old PGT doctor. The officials also want to question an ASI with whom Sanjay Roy had stayed at the police barracks. On Sunday, a team of psychology experts from NSDL reached the CGO Complex. Sources said they will primarily question Roy. The officials may also conduct a ‘psychological autopsy‘ by putting Roy’s voice through a complex voice analysis process. The ASI who had “helped” Roy stay in the barracks has also been questioned.

The officials have also questioned seven security guards of the hospital.
