Edgar-Jones recently responded to the rumours with a seemingly unbothered cheeriness, telling The Sunday Times, “You watch with bemusement really, because it’s interesting to see what narratives people write in.”
The probable source of her calm? Her relationship with photographer Ben Seed. Not many people seem to be aware of Seed – or his connection to Edgar-Jones. The photographer, who’s been linked to Edgar-Jones since September last year, according to Elle, rarely posts about his personal life and was, at some point, rumoured to be dating Anya Taylor-Joy.
Here’s what we do know about the low-key shutterbug.
Seed’s website and Instagram feed are filled with moody, creative portraits of stars of the current pop culture zeitgeist. They might as well be a who’s who of famous faces of the 2020s.
Seed goes by the pseudonym “Pip” for his work, presumably as an homage to his last name. As well as capturing of-the-moment celebrities with his camera, the self-taught photographer has managed to get long-time legends in front of his lens too, including Sir Ian McKellen and Priyanka Chopra.
Seed has had no shortage of commissions from famous luxury brands and publications from around the world either, according to his website. His clients have included luxury houses like Bulgari and Prada, and Rihanna’s cosmetics brand Fenty Beauty. He’s shot major celebrity-designer collaborations, too, including Priyanka Chopra for Bulgari, Anya Taylor-Joy for Dior, and Sonam Kapoor for Louis Vuitton. He’s also worked with Louis Vuitton and Chanel.
Edgar-Jones isn’t the only high-profile actress with a hyphenated surname that the Seed reputedly has a history with. The photographer was also rumoured to be dating actress Anya Taylor-Joy during the Covid-19 lockdown – the two were reportedly seen on a stroll together in London.
Whether they actually dated or not, Seed was behind the lens for many iconic photos of Taylor-Joy, including ones shot for Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, as well as for the actress’ Dior endorsements.
Despite the rumours surrounding his girlfriend and her one-time co-star, Seed clearly has no issue working with Paul Mescal. He’s photographed his girlfriend’s rumoured beau, co-star and best friend multiple times.
He’s produced vibrant, artful shots that Seed later posted to his Instagram.
Seed’s not just shooting fashion campaigns and celebrities, though. He’s also doing plenty of work in the media, with magazines like Rose & Ivy, 1883, The Sunday Times Magazine and Bricks all commissioning him to shoot their covers.
Seed seems to like going to street markets with his girlfriend – and taking her picture, of course.
Naturally, the photos he takes of his current girlfriend are just as evocative as those he takes for his clients. In October last year, Edgar-Jones posted several black-and-white images of herself to her Instagram, tagging her boyfriend with some heart emojis in the caption.
According to Elle, the photographer enjoys strolling through London’s Broadway Market and going to bars with his famous partner.
