The bridge, constructed by the state government, was not opened to the public as approach roads to the bridge were yet to be constructed. The bridge connects Kursa Kanta and Sikty areas of Araria district.
“The bridge’s utility had reduced after the flow of the river changed. However, the district administration has taken cognizance of the incident. Officials of Rural Works Department will reach Araria tomorrow to take a stock of the situation. Strict action will be taken against those who are responsible for the incident,” says JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar on the collapse of a portion of bridge in Bihar’s Araria.
Sikti MLA Vijay Kumar blamed the construction company for the mishap and said, “The bridge has collapsed due to negligence by the construction company’s owner. We demand that the administration should conduct an investigation.”
Another bridge had collapsed due to heavy rainfall in 2020 and 12 people, including four motorcyclists, had fallen into Bakra river. It had collapsed near Udahat under the Jokihat police station area in the district.
