Billie Eilish, Finneas among latest celebrities to endorse Kamala Harris, Tim Walz

2024-09-18 19:45:03

Singer-songwriter Billie Eilish told her fans to “vote like your life depends on it” this November.

In a social media post, she and her brother,Finneas O’Connell, urged their followers to support Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election.

“We are voting for Harris-Walz. The choice is clear,” Eilish wrote in the post, which the star shared Tuesday in spirit of National Voter Registration Day.

Eilish, 22, included a video in the post, with Eilish and Finneas encouraging their followers to check their voting status and vote early. They also disclosed the candidates they are casting their votes for on Nov. 5.

“We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because they are fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet, and our democracy,” Eilish said in the footage.

Finneas, 27, who writes and produces music for multiple artists, including his sister, agreed.

“We can’t let extremists control our lives, our freedoms, and our future,” Finneas said. “The only way to stop them and the dangerous Project 2025 agenda is to vote and elect Kamala Harris.

“Vote like your life depends on it, because it does,” Eilish added.

The two are the latest celebrities to endorse Harris and Walz, with Taylor Swift among one of the first to show support for the Democratic running mates.

Shortly after Harris and former President Donald Trump wrapped up a televised debate Sept. 10, Swift took to Instagram to share her feelings about who she plans to vote for.

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades,” Swift wrote.

“I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story,” she added.

She also said she decided to “be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter” after fake AI-generated images surfaced that falsely showed her endorsing Trump. The former president shared the images on Truth Social, his social media platform.

“It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” Swift wrote in her endorsement.

The 34-year-old pop star ended the post, which featured a photo of her holding her cat, by writing:

With love and hope,

Taylor Swift

Childless Cat Lady

Her words were a reference to Trump’s running mate Ohio Sen. JD Vance, who in 2021 described certain Democrats and their supporters as “childless cat ladies.”

Vance recently appeared on The Megyn Kelly Show, which airs on SiriusXM, and defended the comment. He also urged the public to look a little deeper at his words.

“This is not about criticizing people, who for various reasons, didn’t have kids,”Vance told Kelly. “This is about criticizing the Democratic party for becoming anti-family and anti-child. We have to ask ourselves, Megyn, why do we have masking of toddlers years after the pandemic ended? Why do we have the Harris campaign coming out this very morning, Megyn, and saying that we should not have the child tax credit, which lowers tax rates for parents of young children? It’s because they have become anti-family and anti-kid and I’m proud to stand up for parents and I hope that parents out there recognize that I’m a guy that wants to fight for you.”

Harris’ campaign appears to be making the most of Swift’s endorsement, as the Democratic National Committee last week unveiled new Swift-inspired billboards in two U.S. states, including New York and Nevada.

The digital billboards popped up Friday in Times Square in NYC, as well as along the Las Vegas Strip.

One advertisement includes a photo of Harris and the words, “We’re in our Kamala era,” a reference to Swift’s Eras Tour.

Another ad shows a different image of Harris, along with the words, “A new way forward… Ready for It?” This one is a nod to her hit song, “Ready for It,” which was on Swift’s Reputation album from 2017.

According to People, the New York City ads were erected 22 stories above the red steps in Times Square, with apparent references to two of Swift’s hit songs “22” and “Red” from her 2012 album, Red.
