Paris Saint-Germain is prepared to offer an FC Barcelona star 20 times more than what he currently takes home in pay to join them according to El Nacional, which cited anonymous sources.
The Qatar-backed behemoth has a history of snatching away Barca players ever since shocking the football world by activating Neymar’s $245 million (€222 million) release clause in 2017 and smashing a world transfer record that hasn’t yet been surpassed.
In 2023, PSG paid far less for Ousmane Dembele, but successfully convinced the ambidextrous winger – coincidentally bought by the Blaugrana with the cash received from the Neymar transfer – that his future lied at the Parc des Princes as opposed to Catalonia.
Barca president Joan Laporta has already confirmed earlier this year that he rejected an offer in the region of $220 million (€200 million) for wonderkid Lamine Yamal from PSG, who it sees as the perfect replacement for a Kylian Mbappe who has fled to Real Madrid on a free transfer.
But that doesn’t mean the Parisians have been deterred and won’t look to raid head coach Hansi Flick’s squad elsewhere. According to El Nacional, they have now turned their attention towards another breakout star from La Masia in 2023/2024 alongside Lamine.
Previously on loan at lowly Linares, Fermin Lopez is a case study in grit and determination who worked his socks off to gain prominence under past manager Xavi Hernandez in the first team and became a Spanish international to boot.
Though he acted as a bit part player at the Euros which La Roja won in Germany with Lamine front and center, Fermin was undoubtedly the protagonist at Paris 2024 where his important goals roared his country on to an Olympic gold medal.
This hasn’t gone unnoticed by the main club in the French capital, who would like to increase Fermin’s pay 20-fold.
The 21-year-old currently makes a reported $275,000 (€250,000) a year which PSG is prepared to turn into $5.5 million (€5 million) says El Nacional.
Aware that its attacking midfielder has a string of top European clubs on alert, however, Barca would reportedly like to extend Fermin’s contract until 2029 according to Mundo Deportivo.
