BHOPAL: Worms were reportedly found in a bottle of Azithromycin Oral Suspension — a government-supplied antibiotic syrup given to children — at a district hospital in Gwalior. The incident has led to a statewide alert, with health authorities halting the distribution of the affected batch and launching an investigation, said sources. The complaint came from a woman who visited the OPD at the Maternity Home Hospital in Murar. She was handed the syrup for her child but found black worm-like particles after opening it. She immediately alerted Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajesh Sharma.A team led by Drug Inspector Anubhuti Sharma collected samples from the hospital’s store. The Drug Department has suspended distribution of the entire batch, which was supplied from a central store in Bhopal, and sent samples for testing to a state lab.Officials are now tracking the same batch across other districts, fearing wider distribution. The department has also collected samples of other drugs as a precautionary measure.
