LUCKNOW: A day after Gopal Mishra‘s last rites, his wife Roli recalled how her husband’s body bore signs of brutality that he was subjected to during his final moments. Gopal was murdered in the Bahraich clash that erupted on Sunday evening.
“There were knife marks on his neck. All the nails from his feet were pulled out using pliers,” she claimed. “My husband’s hands and stomach bore multiple pellet wounds. He was killed in a manner similar to the slaughtering of an animal. Now, all I want is justice,” Roli said.
Recalling the sequence of events , Roli said Gopal was busy preparing food for the community feast in the village. “He came home and told me that he was going for the immersion ceremony. I tried to stop him by hiding the bike keys. I kept pleading with him not to go. But he insisted, retrieved the keys, and left,” Roli recalled.
“Around 5 pm, some people called to inform that he was shot. Initially, we were told that the bullet only hit his leg and his life was not in danger. We rushed to the hospital, but what we saw there was horrific,” she said.
Around 85 days ago, Ram Gopal married Roli at a temple. After the wedding, both families accepted the relationship.
Mishra’s mother, Munni Devi, said, “They riddled my son’s entire body with injuries. They hit him on the nose, the neck, and the head. They have completely destroyed our family.”
Mishra’s father, Kailash Chandra, was sitting on the roadside, watching everyone passing by, completely at a loss.
“My son was my support. Whenever I needed to go somewhere, he would take me on his bike. Now, I am worried about my daughter-in-law. What will happen to her now?” he said. “If my son did not go for the immersion, he would have been fine,” he added.
