Ingrid Andress Cancels Shows After Addressing National Anthem Criticism

2024-07-17 21:55:02

Ingrid Andress is canceling some of her upcoming shows after she revealed she is entering rehab, following criticism around her rendition of the national anthem at the Home Run Derby on July 15.

The Grammy-nominated singer, who was roundly criticized for her singing — with some calling it “one of the worst” renditions of the anthem ever — wrote in a statement on July 16 that she was drunk during the performance and was checking herself into a facility to seek treatment.

Then, on July 17, a rep for Andress told TODAY.com that the singer has canceled her upcoming shows in Nashville and Denver, and that those who bought tickets will be contacted by the respective venues for a refund.

Andress apologized to fans in her July 16 message, writing, “I’m not gonna bulls— y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need.”

“That was not me last night,” she added.

Andress also apologized to MLB and to “this country I love so much” for her performance.

“I’ll let you know how rehab is,” she added. “I hear it’s super fun.”

Andress, 32, performed a version of the anthem a cappella at Globe Life Field in Texas, and online critics blasted her rendition.

“I’m so sorry, I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I think I’ve ever heard in my whole life,” one critic wrote on X.

“My ears are bleeding,” added another. “One of the worst national anthem renditions ever.”

A four-time Grammy nominee, Andress has racked up several hits and collaborated with Sam Hunt on her 2021 song “Wishful Drinking.” Andress’ next single, “Colorado 9,” is currently scheduled to be released July 24.
