JAIPUR/ALWAR: Fifteen youths were arrested by Alwar police Tuesday after they drove a bike and a car in the shore waters of Siliserh Lake, a habitat for over 300 crocodiles, to create a social media reel.
The incident came to light after the youths posted several videos of their dangerous stunt on social media platforms, where the footage quickly went viral.
The videos revealed the youths in grave danger of falling prey to the crocodiles, as Siliserh Lake is known for its high concentration of these predators, especially in the shallow areas where the stunt took place.
A senior police official said, “For creating disturbance in the wildlife habitat and creating nuisance in public area , 15 youths have been arrested and 13 motorbikes and one gypsy have been seized under the Motor Vehicle Act.”
Forest department officials and local residents lodged acomplaint, prompting swift action from the police. The lake is situated 16 kilometers from Alwar and the accused are residents of Alwar and KothputliBehror districts.
“The area where the yo uths drove the vehicles is particularly hazardous due to the presence of numerous crocodiles. Siliserh Lake, which has a water depth of about 18 feet and around 9 inches of water on the banks, sees fewer crocodiles on the side where boating occurs. However, the youths ventured to the opposite side, notorious for its large crocodile population,” the official added.
