Boss’s Day, also known as Bosses Day or National Boss Day, is observed on Oct. 16 each year. This year, the day is commemorated on Wednesday.

According to Time and Date, the day is “dedicated to all employers and provides a prospect of improving the liaison between employers and their staff.” Employees on this day celebrate their bosses for various reasons, including supporting their staff.

How did National Boss’s Day start?

Boss’s Day began in 1958 when a State Farm employee registered the holiday with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, according to Time and Date. She designated Oct. 16 because it was her father’s birthday.

According to National Today, National Boss Day officially became a holiday in 1962 with the help of Governor Otto Kerner of Illinois.

Hallmark started selling cards for this occasion in 1979.

So what’s an appropriate gift, thing to do or other way to honor your boss on Boss’s Day?

There are plenty of cards at Hallmark and other stores to let your boss know you’re thinking of them.
