Fox News host Bret Baier has been personally interjecting himself on social media to correct supporters of former President Donald Trump claiming he would be giving Vice President Kamala Harris an easy ride when he interviews her on Wednesday.
News of the interview, which will be prerecorded and air shortly thereafter at 6 p.m. ET, sparked a reaction from Trump, who called Baier “very soft” in a post on Truth Social.
His supporters also said the host would go easy on Harris, with some posting on X, formerly Twitter, that she would not be doing the interview unless her team knew “they would go easy on her”.
Others suggested that questions were “watered down” and that the Harris campaign had pre-conditions in order to secure the slot.
“There were no preconditions to get the interview,” Baier replied to one Trump supporter. “No one has the questions ahead of time —except me.
“No topic is off the table. And if there is any editing -it will be very minimal for timing and will be editorially the same question and answer- we are pre taping the interview right before my live show Wednesday in Pa. Thanks.”
Baier responded to others claiming Harris must have been given the questions ahead of time, which he said was not true, and added that the interview was being taped just before his show, as this was the time the vice president’s campaign had given him.
“It will be as-live —not edited – run from beginning to end – no changes – period. We just confirmed there will be no commercials to interrupt the interview,” he replied to one X user.
Baier also responded to a now-deleted post which asked about Trump being on the show. The host said he had invited him every week.
Baier, who is known as a fair journalist who hosts Fox‘s flagship political show Special Report, has come into conflict with Trump in the past.
After the presidential debate in September, Fox floated the idea of another debate, moderated by Baier and fellow host Martha MacCallum. Trump said he wouldn’t want that unless Jesse Watters, one of Fox’s more partisan primetime hosts, moderated it.
Later in the month, Baier said Trump was the one holding up a second debate, not Harris, and said he did not understand why the former president was reluctant to face his rival again.
The former president will appear on Fox News earlier in the day Wednesday, when a town hall featuring an all-female audience due to tape Tuesday night will air at 11 a.m. ET.
