Fortnite servers are going offline Thursday night into Friday morning as another season of the game is ending.
Here’s what to know about the upcoming Fortnite downtime and the new Marvel-themed Chapter 5 Season 4.

What time is the Fortnite update today?
The current season of Fortnite will soon come to an end. According to the game’s service updates page, Chapter 5 Season 3 will end Thursday at 10 p.m. CT. At this time, its servers will go offline for maintenance to upgrade to v31.00.
“Absolute Doom approaches the Battle Royale Island… menacingly!” Fortnite posted on X, formerly Twitter. “Downtime begins [Thursday], 8/15, at 11 pm ET, with matchmaking disabled shortly beforehand.”
Are Fortnite servers down?
Between the end of Chapter 5 Season 3 and the launch of Marvel Absolute Doom, Fortnite servers will be down.
Based on the downtime for previous season releases, the website Polygon estimates Fortnite will be offline about four hours.
When will Fortnite servers be back up 2024?
Based on the timing of previous releases, the Fortnite servers will be back up Friday around 2 a.m. CT with Chapter 5 Season 4.
Of course, server maintenance can take longer than expected, as we found out when extended downtime delayed Chapter 5 Season 2 in March.
The trailer for the next season made its debut at the Fortnite D23 event on Aug. 10.
It highlighted many new Marvel-themed weapons, according to Polygon, including Black Panther’s claws and Captain America’s shield. And Wolverine is apparently a banana, named Peelverine, according to Forbes.
Also, MCU fans will be able to find clues about upcoming movies and TV shows in the new Fortnite season, according to Forbes, which calls it “a more interactive and cross-media collaboration than most.”
